Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine are both located in smaller cities that are conveniently located near two of the country's larger metropolitan areas. While the Shawnee National Forest is Carbonale's backyard, St. Louis is just a two hour drive away. The campus of the SIU School of Medicine is located in the state capital of Springfield, Illinois. Ideally situated, Springfield offers residents a thriving cultural scene and close proximity to Chicago and St. Louis.
